2009 is the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species (24 November 1859) and the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth (12 February 1809). I painted this portrait of Darwin as a demo for the students of the Illustration Academy. Darwin is a hero to me not only because of his brilliant discoveries that changed the face of modern science and anthropology but also because he dared to publish his ideas knowing full well the criticism he would surely face. A few years ago I saw a Darwin show at the Museum of Natural History in New York. The simple elegance of the examples in that show are a profound proof of what simply can no longer be denied.

Evolution doesn’t work. Look around you, all things were created, not evolved. For instance, if man evolved from apes, why are apes still at their original state? Darwin was an atheist, it’s no wonder he pushed his worldly thoughts. There is absolutely no proof of what he has ever said regarding evolution is correct.

Dear Mr Tutsky
Not only does Evolution work it is the only thing that is irrefutably and undeniably the Truth. It is a beautiful elegant and gorgeous reason that we are here. There is nothing but proof. And we did not evolve from apes. Rather all creatures are constantly evolving from prior versions. The creature we evolved from would have had ape-like characteristics but it wouldn’t be the apes we see today, as they are also evolving on their own trajectory. You may be interested in a book called God’s Brain. It is by renowned anthropologist Lionel Tiger. It explains why we have evolved to believe in religion!
