Thank you so much Candan Fetvaci for inviting me to Istanbul for the third time to judge this wonderful show this time in honor of the 30th anniversary of the organization. The judges included Adolf Born, Brad Holland, Robert Mankoff, Arita Kunz, Ralph Steadman, Selçuk Demirel, Latif Demirci, Piyale Madra and Ercan Akyol.
I had a wonderful time in Istanbul last week. It was an incredible time to be there…the protests were going on all around us (the tear gas was only used in Taksim) and it was extraordinary to witness how the grass roots protests were growing. I was one of the judges of The Aydin Dogan International Cartoon Competition. Shown here are 4 of the 10 judges…me, The New Yorker Magazine cartoon editor Bob Mankoff, the great Ralph Steadman and Adolf Born, legendary Czech artist. It was my third time as a judge. Many thanks to the wonderful Candan Fetvaci CEO of the competition
After 23 years, I’m giving up my New York apartment! It’s the end of an era. Some amazing people have lived or stayed here over the years…Doug Aitken, Sally Gall, Larry Carroll, Tom Wolff, Molly Roberts, Joele Cuyler, Matt Mahurin and Lisa Desimini, Brian Smale and Shelley Thomas, Paula Lerner….thanks everyone
